This review summarizes systematic design and characterization strategies for MOF-derived carbons (MOFdCs). It discusses how pyrolysis temperature, gas environment, and template MOF structure influence the final carbon structure. Zinc-based MOFs such as ZIF-8 can yield highly porous carbons without post-treatment because zinc evaporates during carbonization .
